Canadian Monthly Podcast Audience grows 19% y/y, now comprising 46% of adult population

September 17, 2025 – The Canadian Podcast Listener (CPL) has been back in the field to prepare for the December release of the 2025 report. The only comprehensive study of its kind, CPL delivers deep insights into Canadian podcast consumption: who’s consuming, what they’re consuming, and how they’re consuming, breaking it all down by different regions, audiences and the most important trends. It’s the definitive resource for podcasters, publishers, agencies and advertisers.

This year’s data shows Canadian podcast consumption has reached an all time high, with monthly podcast audience growing 19% year-over-year, now comprising 46% of the population A18+. Additionally, it shows an increase of 16% in weekly listening, a habit shared by a third of adult Canadians. Newcomers in Canada are a part of that growth story, and the data shows they are super-consumers of podcasts.  In 2025 we see that a near super-majority (64%) of Newcomers consume podcasts weekly – up 6% year-over-year – and three quarters (76%) consume monthly.

After observing a decline in podcast consumption by French Canadians in 2024, consumption among that population has rebounded to reach a new height. A third of French Canadians (33%) now report having consumed a podcast in the last month, a large increase over the 24% reported last year.

Acast’s Managing Director in Canada, Heather Gordon said, “We see the growth in the Canadian podcast audience first-hand. It’s key to have the independent Canadian Podcast Listener study verify this and provide deeper insights into podcast consumption for us and our stakeholders.” She added, “The CPL delivers the crucial evidence of value that we need to bring in advertising dollars for our creators.”

The CPL surveys more than 4,600 Canadian adults annually with a mission to raise awareness and understanding of the podcast audience for podcasters, agencies, advertisers, and others needing deep insights into the business and opportunities for podcasting in Canada. Subscribers gain access to annual reports and all the CPL data.

“The thing that makes The Canadian Podcast Listener really special is that it reflects the entire industry.” adds Matt Hird, VP of Research at Signal Hill Insights and CPL Research Director, “The study is shaped by the feedback of publishers, agencies, and platforms all looking to better understand the podcast environment in Canada as it exists objectively.”
